The business was started by licensed Child Restraint Technician Claire McGowan to provide a local service for parents as a licensed installer and retailer of baby car seat products and child restraints.
Opening a boutique baby and kids store in Mosgiel
In 2017 Claire decided to expand the business to include more than just car seats. With the support of her husband Rob, (who deals with the technology side of the business), she found a premises in the heart of Mosgiel’s shopping district and in October 2017 opened the Sitting Safe Newborn to Knee High store. This was closely followed by the launch of an online shop, giving customers the choice of browsing and buying via the web as well as in person. Both options come with the added advantage of tapping into the product knowledge and practical advice from Claire and others who become part of the Sitting Safe team.
“There is so much more stuff that people need to buy for babies and small children that require us to choose wisely. We wanted to extend our service of providing advice and education to the community to help people make informed choices when purchasing items"
The shop provides a physical base within the local community, where the biggest proportion of Sitting Safe’s customers live, work and play. Claire is also a strong supporter of Plunket and other local community groups, offering her time for such things as checkpoints and education events. The business provides a rent to own service for child car seats through the Taieri Parents Centre. For information around this, either contact Claire via Email, or visit the Taieri Parents Centre website.
