Sitting Safe in Mosgiel is one of Dunedin’s finest boutique baby and children’s shop. We offer a range of gorgeous baby wear and kids clothes and accessories, as well as our extensive line of child car seats. Owned and operated by single mum Claire, this shop is not one to miss if you are local, or purchasing from online! Supporting local, but also stocking local is what this little treasure shop is about! 

We are located at 4 Factory Road, in Mosgiel, drop in and see our range. Our experienced and friendly team are on hand to answer any questions you have about how to keep your little ones safe and secure when out and about.

The business was started by licensed Child Restraint Technician and trainer/assessor Claire McGowan. They provide a local service for parents as an expert in her field on car seats and now a retailer of baby car seat products, and car seats. 

In 2017 Claire decided to expand the business to include more than just car seats. She found a premises in the heart of Mosgiel’s shopping district and in October 2017 opened the Sitting Safe Newborn to Knee High store. This was closely followed by the launch of an online shop, giving customers the choice of browsing and buying via the web as well as in person. Both options come with the added advantage of tapping into the product knowledge and practical advice from Claire and others who became part of the Sitting Safe team.

The locally owned and operated baby and children's shop holds a large range of products including: clothing, books, toys, wooden toys, lunch boxes, drink bottles, safety items, linen, baby front packs, décor and baby accessories. They are specialists in supporting women with breast feeding, car seats, baby front packs, baby wearing and all that is in between! 

The shop provides a physical base within the local community, where the biggest proportion of Sitting Safe’s customers live, work and play. Claire is also a strong supporter of Plunket and other local community groups, offering her time for such things as checkpoints and education events.
